Angels secure crucial victory
The Angels took all three points in a home win over Chiang Rai United, with Bangkok United’s Muhsen Al-Ghassani putting away an injury-time penalty kick in a 3-2 win on Saturday night in a Thai League 1 clash.
Bangkok United now trail leaders Buriram United by two points with one game in hand.
The faltering Beetles stunned the home crowd when Harhys Stewart laid on a header for Jordan Emaviwe in the 28th minute, but Bangkok United equalised five minutes later when Mahmoud Eid touched in a cross from Pokklaw A-Nan.
Three minutes later, the Angles tallied their second goal when Richairo Zivkovic heel passed to Nitipon Selanon to score. A minute before the break, Chiang Rai equalised when Julio Ceasar’s header drifted the ball into the net.
Bangkok United secured the winner in the 14-minute injury-time when Julio Ceasar fouled Rungrat Poomjanthuek in the box, which Match Referee’ had granted a spot winning after the usage of VAR.
Al-Ghassani confidently dispatched the penalty to send the home side home with all three points.
Man of the match Eid said after the game: “We had set winning this game as our target and I am glad that I strolled away with my head held high.
“We let in two goals tonight and we still got three points so that’s great.
Nakhon Pathom United’s struggles continued as they were crushed 4-1 at home BG Pathum United also on Saturday night.
Rayong stayed three points above the three-team relegation zone after beating Sukhothai, 2-1.
