Museum Pier Explore the history of Thai art here

Join a fun-filled experience for both kids and adults during the “200 Years Journey Through Thai Modern Art History” exhibition, underway until April 30 at the Museum Pier.

More than 100 rare, valuable paintings from the personal collection of museum co-founders Piriya and Kornkamol Vachajitpan are on display. They range from works by pioneering Thai artists like Khrua In Khong during the reign of King Rama IV to modern-day practitioners like Alex Face, Gongkan, Molly and Mr. Kreme.

But what’s special about this exhibition is that it includes museum labels, a strategy that’s widely adopted in galleries throughout the UK and the US, so that younger family members have a whole new way to explore exhibits joyfully.

One-such artist is new-gen figure Deejai Kosiyabong, who this time is providing Thailand’s very first collection of museum labels for kids, as a means to make art less intimidating and more approachable for children.

She has used creative captions to share information about the works via words, illustrations and symbols meant specifically for kids. They inspire kids to explore art creating a more bright and colorful learning experience.

Through adorable captions at kid’s eye level on the museum’s brightly coloured walls, children can also write their own stories, share their thoughts and remember what they learned in an engaging manner.

The description of the captions is that the artistic ideas have been interpreted from a child’s view and mixed in with pieces of knowledge. She drew on her childhood experiences and family memories and on what she learned in Museum Studies at the Pratt Institute in the US to shape the captions.

Also on display is an Activity Book, which includes crayons and coloured pencils so that children can sit down and draw, take notes or doodle wildly — inspiring their imagination creativity.

Museum Pier sits by Tha Chang pier, Maharaj Road and is open daily from 9am to 5pm. Entry fee is 100 baht (50 baht for kids above 90cm)
