Myanmar-born Chinese migrants detained in Ayutthaya
Five Chinese men who illegally entered Thailand from Myanmar through Tak province have been arrested by police.
Pol Maj Gen Kongkrit Lertsitthikul, the highway police commander, said officers apprehended five Chinese men in two pickup trucks Wednesday on Highway 32 in Bang Pa-in district of Ayutthaya.
One of the Thai drivers, Jittikorn Saejang, 31, said he had been hired for 6,500 baht to pick up the men at Tak. He claimed to know they were undocumented migrants.
The five Chinese men told police, speaking through a translator, that they had walked through a natural border crossing into Mae Sot district of Tak and were en route to Bangkok in search of jobs.
