FAT plans legal action against ex-chief Somyot
The executive board of the Football Association of Thailand has approved the plan to sue former chief Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang for allegedly causing financial harm through mismanagement.
The FAT was dealt a staggering financial blow last Thursday when the Supreme Court ordered the association to pay 360 million baht in damages to Siam Sport Syndicate Plc for the unfair termination of a privileges and TV rights contract.
Pol Gen Somyot, who ran the national association for two terms covering eight years, had cancelled the contract with the Siam Sport Syndicate in 2016.
Nualphan Lamsam RSVP It was announced last February last year that Nualphan Lamsam, had become the association president of a male-dominated association for the first time.
“I had made an immediate decision to address this issue with the FAT executive board because the second defendant in the lawsuit under Section 76 of the Civil and Commercial Act was the former FAT chief and the executive board at that time,” Nualphan told the media during a Tuesday press conference at the FAT office.
To assist in the issue, a special campaign “Thai People, Love Thai Football” has also been approved for launch to raise funds to pay of FAT debt incurred due to the lawsuit and also for funding the Thai national team.
The campaign is to be split into three sections; T-shirts at “Thai people love Thai football,” donation and fund-raising activity, details of which the FAT will reveal later.
At the same time, Pol Gen Somyot stated that he wrote a letter to the FAT to seek clarification over claims raised by Nualphan that his salary while he was FAT president amounted to 32 million baht.
“It was in the media that I received a monthly salary of one million baht from the FAT and Thai League Co, amounting to 32 million baht. I earned nowhere near what she said from the podium during the press conference. So I requested within seven days from my request the documents and evidence regarding my salary as president from the FAT,” he said.
