Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing and senior military officers pay tribute at Memorial to the Fallen Heroes (Nay Pyi Taw)

To mark the 80th Anniversary of Armed Forces Day, a ceremony of laying wreath and paying respect was held this morning at the Memorial to the Fallen Heroes (Nay Pyi Taw) today. It was attended by Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior GeneralThadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing and paid tribute by laying a wreath.

In addition to the Senior General, other attendees of the ceremony included Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Thiri Pyanchi Maha Thray Sithu Soe Win, Chief of the General Staff (Army, Navy and Air) General Zeyya Kyaw Htin Thray Sithu Kyaw Swa Lin, Commander-in-Chief (Navy) Admiral Zeyya Kyaw Htin Htein Win, Commander-in-Chief (Air) General Zeyya Kyaw Htin Sithu Tun Aung, retired senior military officers and high-ranking military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief.

Firstly, the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Chairman of the State Administration Council and senior military officers were seated inside and on the precinct of the Memorial to the Fallen Heroes. The Chairman of the State Administration Council Commander-in-Chief of Defence services also laid a wreath and paid solemn tribute to heroic soldiers who sacrificed their lives to serve their duties in defence and national security, in attendance by senior military officers.

After then, Senior General and senior officers of the army signed in the guest book and went round to visit the memorial.

The Memorial to the Fallen Heroes (Nay Pyi Taw) was commissioned on March 27, 2017 under the supervision of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, who is also the Chairman of the State Administration Council, for the purpose of honouring the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the independence and sovereignty of Myanmar, of memorializing those who sacrificed their lives with great bravery and fortitude after the nation re-acquired its sovereign authority, of ensuring future generations remember these heroes, and of awakening the youth’s ethnicities as well as filling their hearts with patriotism and a spirit of self-sacrifice for the nation. Names of heroes who have received the Aung San Thuriya, the Thiha Thura and the Thura medals, as well as the names listed in the Heroes’ Roll of Honour are inscribed in gold lettering on granite slabs inside the memorial. Statues of five Aung San Thuriya medalist soldiers and one civilian also stand outside the memorial, in tribute.
