Natthaphong losing to Paetongtarn for PM, People’s Party obliterates Pheu Thai: polll

Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the Pheu Thai Party’s leader, is the most preferred candidate to be prime minister after the People’s Party is still the most favoured political party in a 1st quarter of 2025 survey conducted by Nida Poll.

In a previous Nida poll, the opposition and People’s Party leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut was a frontrunner for the prime ministership and ahead of Ms Paetongtarn by a narrow margin, and his party had a significant margin over the ruling Pheu Thai Party.

The poll was conducted from Mar 24-27 using telephone interviews with 2,000 respondents, age 18 and older, of varying education levels, occupations and incomes across the country.

When respondents were asked who they would prefer to back for the position of prime minister today, the responses were as follows:

30.90% for Paetongtarn “Ung-Ing” Shinawatra of the ruling Pheu Thai Party, the current prime minister. The respondents stated that they approved of Pheu Thai’s policies and wished to give Ms Paetongtarn and her party an additional chance to demonstrate their seriousness.

22.90% Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut (People’s Party) He was favoured for bringing a new generation of leadership that isn’t all about years in power but represents qualities like transparency, honesty, and policies that talk to the people.

23.50% claimed that they had not found anyone worthy for the position

8.45%: Pirapan Salirathavibhaga of the United Thai Nation Party because of his competency, integrity and the clarity of his policies.

3.90% for Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan of the Thai Sang Thai Party, in light of her longstanding leadership experience, high integrity and strong political positions.

Among the other options were Bhumjaithai Party leader Anutin Charnvirakul with 2.85%, Democrat Party leader Chalermchai Sri-on with 1.70% of respondents’ responses and Palang Pracharath Party leader Gen Prawit Wongsuwon with 1.20%.

People’s Party retains on Pheu Thai

When asked about the political party they currently support, the People’s Party ranked highest at 37.10%, followed by Pheu Thai Party (28.05%), “no suitable political party” (13.75%), United Thai Nation Party (8.75%), Democrat Party (3.65%), Bhumjaithai Party (3.35%), Thai Sang Thai Party (2.00%), and Palang Pracharath Party (1.85%).

The remainder — 1.50% — were for other political parties, including Prachachat Party, Chartthaipattana Party, Chart Pattana Party, Klatham Party, Thai Ruamphalang Party, Liberal Party, and Pen Tham Party.
