Tour of Thailand: Salby claims overall victory

Denmark’s Alexander Salby was crowned champion of the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Cup Tour of Thailand 2025 overall yesterday as his Li Ning Star team emerged victorious.

The Danish rider finished fifth on the 144.40km sixth and final stage, from Watthana Nakhon to Aranyaprathet, but that was enough for him to secure the overall title with a time of 17:19.52 hours.

Salby’s Swiss teammate Simon Pellaud was second overall in 17:19.57 hours, with Italian Lorenzo Quartucci third on 17:20.04.

Salby also was the overall points winner (green jersey) with 76 points. The second place went to Yevgeniy Gidich of China Glory-Mentech Continental Cycling team with 67 points while Thomas Sexton of St George Continental Cycling Team scored 58 points for third place.

The Best Asean Rider (purple jersey) award went to Sarawut Sirironnachai, a member of the Thai national team, who posted a combined time of 17:20.23 hours. He finished 11th overall.

Sakchai Phodingam of the Grant Thornton Cycling team and Navuti Liphongyu of the Thailand Continental Cycling team were second and third, respectively, in the Best Asean Rider category.

Yesterday’s stage was won by Nicholas Kergozou de la Boessiere of the St George Continental Cycling team from New Zealand, who finished in 3:11.41 hours. Roojai Insurance rider Pathompob Phonarjthan finished second and Roy Eefting-Bloem from Holland took third place.

The best team category was won by Solution Tech Vini Fantini (Italy) in a time of 52:00.58 hours while the Best Asean team was Thailand Continental Cycling team in 52:01.27 hours.

“It was a good competition all in all. There were also teams from over 20 different nations around the world participating in this year’s competition and the live broadcast is reportedly received by the largest audience ever. As for Myanmar, there are some great rivalries, and the Thai riders had a good performance, winning the purple jersey which will go to the best Asean rider, Sarawut,” said Gen Decha Hemkrasri, head of the Thai Cycling Association (TCA).

“Next year, the Tour of Thailand 2026, we will go to Nong Khai,” he said.

Today will be a rest day. The women’s three-stage race starts tomorrow.
