The Nigerian suspect was arrested for motorbike theft in Chumphon

A Nigerian man who ran amok in front of a convenience store in Muang district of Chumphon on Saturday morning was found to be wanted for motorcycle theft in a nearby district, police said.

Tourist police were called to the Home Fresh store in tambon Na Thung by the store and went to the scene where they found a foreign tourist screaming and damaging property in front of the store, said Pol Lt Col Wachirapisak Na Songkhla, a tourist police inspector.

The officers established that the tourist _ later identified as Motasem Al Manaseer, 26 _ had given contradictory accounts. They then called local police to help de-escalate him as well as take him to a hospital to check his condition.

Shortly thereafter, police in the neighboring Chaiya district asked their counterparts in Muang district to assist in the arrest of a foreign national who had stolen a motorcycle. The thief was described as matching Mr Al Manaseer’s.

The Nigerian was later arrested and the stolen bike recovered. The arresting team also recovered 16 other items which had been stolen hidden inside the motorcycle. He was subsequently transferred to the Chaiya police station to face legal action.
